Nila House
Nila House celebrates the skill and knowledge of India’s artisan communities with a special focus on natural indigo dyes, handloom weaving and the preservation of traditional textile techniques. More than a gallery or a design space, it is a living centre for creativity, research and cultural exchange founded by Carole Bamford.
It is housed in a thoughtfully restored 1940s family bungalow. The outdoor area has been designed with tapered stone tiles and indigenous plants and trees. The interiors are pure white with external piping for all light points. The house has a beautiful courtyard in the centre where they organise events from time to time.
The collection varies from clothes to home linen, with indigo being the key theme.
They also organise exhibitions showcasing textile artisans from different parts of the country.
In the above-mentioned picture, the artist is singing Sufi songs and hymns by Kabir, Rumi and Khusrau.
